A Taiwanese immigrant, Berkeley graduate and an avid recycler/re-user, Christine spends her energies trying to find ways to help the world. With more pins on our ""where we've been"" map than I can keep track of, she's a world traveler who has managed to stay on the East Coast for the past 5 years.
We are currently doing residency in Emergency Medicine in NYC. I've gotten to know her pretty well and I'd like to share who she is with you and how we met.
Second year of medical school was notoriously tough. The hours were long with few opportunities to break from coffee shop study sessions. Mexican hot chocolates and bottomless coffee refills were becoming monotonous to me and I couldn't wait to get back to CA for vacation. Christmas break was a welcome reprieve from the stress of impending board exams. The Philly airport was bustling; students, families, vacationers: they were all crammed into the frigid terminal, attempting to escape the East Coast winter. Waiting to board with hopes of snagging an aisle seat, I sensed a familiarity with her, but I couldn’t place where we’d crossed paths. I recognized the medical text she was reading. The seat across from her was open and a bit of curiosity struck me. Right before take-off, we chatted across the aisle. What little bravado and confidence I’d possessed slipped away as I learned she was actually one year ahead of me. Assertiveness morphed into fascination and over the course of that 5-hour flight I realized how interested I was in learning more about this mystery girl. She seemed to appreciate my inquisitive nature. We were comfortable together and I thought at the very least, we’d be great friends. Our love for trying new things and pursuing interesting foods bonded us after our return to Philly on New Year's Day. After that, life was just more fun together. Spontaneous trips for sea urchin in the Grenadines and drives to all-you-can-eat sushi bars deep in Connecticut are some of our fond memories. We have a great time together.
If you're here, you probably already know a few of Christine's wonderful/quirky qualities. One of her most beautiful qualities is the sincerity she has for other peoples’ well-being. She inspires others to do good in the world. Our kitchen has stacks of trail mix and granola bars; she’s purchased them to stash in her bag because they go farther than a dollar when someone’s in need. People mean a lot to her. She was raised to be a strong woman who takes care of family and friends. She’s quite the amazing woman. Thanks for coming to our site, and see you soon.
